This is Sang Chul, who left Bournemouth in July to return to Korea.
Shortly after his return, he tried to stop a fight and was accidentally injured. He was taken to hospital with serious brain damage. After some time in a coma and two brain operations, he has made good progress. Joshua and Vera, and some WIC students, were able to visit him in hospital. He is now back at home, where he needs to rest for some time.
Update (10-Dec-08). Sang Chul's eye sight is improved, though not absolutely right yet. The deafness in his right ear and the dizziness continues. He can now walk by himself, but cannot go out by himself, so he can't go on buses or anything like that without somebody else. About once a month one or other of his friends visits - they have to travel across Seoul. So, except for his family who are great, he's a bit isolated. His sister is now back at Portsmouth uni. He would like to come back to UK but needs to improve a lot first.
Update (23-Oct-08). Val visited Korea and went to see Sang Chul. He has lost the hearing in his right ear and has double vision in his right eye. He also suffers from dizziness and a poor (bad) sense of balance. His father is very gentle and caring with him, and is helping restore his self confidence by, for example, taking him on the underground to hospital appointments.
Update (Jan-09). His sight and hearing are improved, but not yet normal. He is more independant in terms of walking but still can get a bit dizzy. He is hoping to return to university, to his original course, in 6 months time, however this is not definite. Understandably, sometimes he feels down as he tries to sort out things.
Update (Apr-09). His sight and hearing continue to improve, but are not yet
normal. His walking is also improving, and he is able to do some easy work helping a relative. He is
still hoping to return to university, but to do a different course from the one he was originally doing.
Update (Jul-09). Bo Yeon and Hye Young were in Korea in the summer and went out for a meal with Sang Chul. He is continuing to improve - slowly.
Many people are praying for him.
Please continue to pray that he will make a a 100% recovery.
